What my baby Cape will look like...

..in a few weeks time. I figured my blog could use a bit more baby cuteness and this picture is obviously from a previous clutch. I was told this what what they looked like at +/- 4 weeks of age, but I really think it's on the + side.

Hard to believe that my little girl Cape will be a month old, one week from tomorrow!

I am really wanting to burst out with the name I picked but I'm waiting on getting a clearer picture of her. Just to see if it seems right.

Hoping for another picture update this week!

And this makes three..

Baby #3 has hatched today!

No big surprise though, was expecting it.

Now the waiting for the sexing, which apparently will be done with the eggshell (I guess he found the one for Egg #1 after all) and shortly.

The wait shouldn't be too long anymore.
Mind you, it's a little daunting to be that much closer but still far away..

The results are in....

...and my hunch was right.

The baby is a male, which means I'll wait for the next clutch in hopes that there is a female there.

I do hope the little guy will find a great family though.

Second April Red-bellied baby update

Got some more pictures today! (..and I am running out of different tile ideas for these..)
Also, the blood for the DNA test was taken today and the card was sent for analysis. I should know the sex of the baby in the next few days!

The baby is now down from 4 feeding a day to 3 and is starting to try out some pellets and other foods, such as cooked grains, legumes and vegetables.

And another baby update

I haven't posted pictures in a while since I was battling having them on here if it turns out to be a male and I wait for another clutch.

But it is really neat to see the progress, that I figured I would share it.
Here are a few pictures I've received in the past few days. It's incredible how much it changes each day!

I've added the date the pictures were taken underneath the pictures and have done so for my previous baby posts.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed this one is a female and should know for sure soon!

Birthday Girl!

Shade turns 4 today.
It seems like just yesterday I was bringing her home.

The first picture I ever took of her.

Senegal baby pictures

As Shade and her brother Nemo's birthdays are coming up, I thought I'd share some baby pictures I've got of them.

Shade is in the bowl with the pink blanket and Nemo has the purple blanket.

Shade is on the left, Nemo on the right.

Shade is the one higher up.

Another baby update

March 17, 2010

In form of a picture.
It is just too cute!

Last bit of hope this time around.

It turns out that the two babies I posted about previously are two males.

But..they happen to have a sibling. This little one is not with it's brothers since the dad injured it; some cuts on one side of it's face and a dented beak from what I can see. This little one got to stay with the breeder whilst the other two ended up at a local pet store.

I am hoping this little one turns out to be a female. Both Shade and Piper, the two birds I did get as babies, had issues with their legs (splayed leg for Piper and broken leg which wasn't healing right for Shade) so I don't have issues with getting birds that aren't the "perfect" image of health. Mind you, from what I could gather, this little one will most likely only have aesthetic issues; the dented beak doesn't prevent it from eating and playing. While I had kept my fingers crossed one of the other two would be a female (I was hoping to actually, for once, get one bird from the baby stage that wouldn't have any issues) this little injured one had always kept pulling my heartstrings so if it turns out to be a female, I'll put it on the case of fate.

Here is a picture.

Here are some pictures I got from the Red-bellied breeder. I got her permission to share them.

They are so cute, tiny white balls of fluff :D

And the eggs have become squeaks!

I got an email yesterday from the Red-bellied breeder.

She heard tiny squeaks coming from the breeding box, meaning that one or more of the eggs have hatched! She isn't sure of the numbers since she hasn't had a chance to peak in the box; mom is still in there most of the time and she does not want to bother her. Quite frankly, I do prefer that the parents are left alone to do their things, as they have proven in the past that they are very capable of taking care of the babies.

I can't wait for them to be old enough that the parents will be ok with leaving them for longer periods of time and that the breeder will be able to start taking pictures :)

They are so very cute in their fuzzy stage.

Update on the eggs

Some "fresh" news on the possible Red-belly baby front.

The breeder told me this week that the pair is sitting on three eggs and should hatch anytime around February 10th so I might have a new baby in the Spring!
They will be sexed.

Crossing my fingers there is a female in the clutch!
