To everyone who says Poicephalus aren't snugly..Shade is currently on my shoulder, standing as close as she can next to my neck. So much so that I doubt you would be able to fit a finger between her and I. Each time I move her a bit she comes in closer if she can manage it.
It's her spot. And there is no moving her unless she decides to move.

Enjoying some Veggie Wedges
This morning I gave around some pieces of Veggie Wedges, one of the goodies I ordered from Avian Organics. I had actually meant to try them for a bit but they had been out of stock for a while.
Well...these went over very VERY well with all the birds! Even Petey who normally will lift his beak at this kind of stuff just scarfed his share down. I mean really just ate it up, and did it so fast that I didn't get a chance to take a picture!
I actually only managed to capture two birds eating - Zuri because I started with him because he normally eats anything I give him really really fast (so to better be able to steal another bird's share..) and Shade because she normally eats very very slow, so to savour every bite (very rarely will Shade leave any crumbs) and luckily, she's the one bird Zuri normally doesn't try very hard to steal food from.

You can't change a Shade...
So in the past I had placed a small stainless steel bowl up high on the left hand side of Shade's cage for pellets. Well, she would use this bowl to eat the pellets as well as to destroy some wood in it - the end result being the pellets mixed in with some wood chips.
Seeing how she enjoyed chewing wood above a bowl, I figured I'd buy her a slightly larger stainless steel bowl, install it on the left hand side of her cage, at about the same height as the small one was, put some wood pieces in there for her to chew and moved the pellet bowl to the other side of her cage, where there are less wooden toys, in an effort to not have wood chips mingle with the pellets.
This was good for about a week.
This morning, I went to see how many pellets she had left and if they required to be changed...and guess what was in the bowl as well. Yes...wood chips. She had dragged a full size individual wood block from Mother Plucking - the full size one, not the mini - and started to destroy it there.
There's just no changing her..

An Avian Organics order
My first November post! November is good - November = Canadian Parrot Conference!
Anyways, back at the subject at hand, I received an order of goodies from Avian Organics.
From left to right:
-Flatbread Fusions (Pomegranate flavour)
-Mayan Crunch (a gift - and possibly the best thing, love the Mayan Crunch! (and so does the boy who requested we keep this for ourselves...))
-Veggie Wedges (been wanting to try these for a while)
-Bolivian Bliss
-Bolivian Blast (took me a while to notice the different names, I stuck to the "Bolivian" part and wondered why the packages looked so different..)
-Cupid Cookies
-Andean Ambrosia
My gift - or should I say gifts (yes I got gifts, part of something that was going on on one of my parrot forums) - were two DVDs (which I do not already own) and one very cute (early) Christmas card (this is definitively putting me more in a festive mood than the fake Christmas tree already set up at the Shopper's where the post office is...they had Christmas decorations next to the left over Halloween stuff..great...anyways enough rambling, here's a picture)

I can't believe it!...
I can't believe it..
I have a bird who does not always eat Pomegranate seeds when they are offered to him!!!
Tonight's dinner was a mix of fresh cut vegetables (kale, pumpkin, carrots, broccoli, bell pepper) and fruit (Poms and orange) and while Pixel's bowl looked like a murder scene as did the wall behind Shade's cage, Zuri apparently did not touch his seeds!!! No stain in the bowl or around it and all the grains seemed to have been left intact!
While he's eaten them in the past, I've never ever came across a parrot who would turn it's beak at it (well except Piper who doesn't really know what they are because he runs away from fresh food every time it's offered (and it's always offered) but I'm sure if he actually tasted them once he'd be hooked)..
I mean even Petey, who's somewhat picky, will eat them (if only them in the bowl of mix food).

A Things for Wings order
Earlier last week I have received an order I made with Things for Wings the week before.
Included in the order were full toys as well as toy parts. I have a few pictures to share, from the pre-made toys as well, as to show off one of the ways I use the natural wood parts I ordered.
First, here is a picture of the packaging on the inside. Everything was nice and organized.
Here are some of the toys I ordered.
Blue Willow (I ordered four, all different colours)
The Hokey Pokey (I think I have four of these)
The Flounder
And with some of the wood coins I ordered, I refurbished some of my Mother Plucking corkscrew skewers.
There is also a sale going on..everything off 15% :)

Green or brown...
....these pods are made to be chewed!
Some pictures from tonight. Really show how into it Joey was...(which is pretty representative about how most of the Pois where busy tonight, Joey just happened to be standing right in front of me.)
Natural foraging opportunities are fantastic!

The Poinciana Seed Pods..
...are keeping Zuri so busy right now that he is staying out of trouble!
He's happily chewing away at his pod section, working hard to get the seed.
Much better past time than chasing the other birds ;)
The seed pods have really been an overwhelming success so far - I had put a piece in each of the cages and couldn't find Pixel's or Shade's, Zuri's piece was down to a tiny lump and Joey had profusely chewed his. Petey left his intact and Piper didn't get any since they are a bit too tough for him I think (he did get a Christmas palm nut which he has touched!).
He's happily chewing away at his pod section, working hard to get the seed.
