A side-effect to taking all these pictures for 365, is that I get a lot of other pictures I like, which means I'll probably post many more pictures.

5:365 - Zuri

Like I did with Joey, I was trying to get a picture of him with his wings up. Unlike with Joey, I didn't succeed.

4:365 - Léa

She was sitting nicely on the corner of the computer desk, couldn't resist taking a picture.

She actually cooperated for quite some time before deciding she wanted the camera!

Not sure what is going on here...

I just find the picture funny, seeing how she's sticking out her tongue, probably as far out as she can!

3:365 - Goof

I wanted a picture of him sticking his wings up, since he's been doing it like crazy lately. But, of course, with a camera pointed towards him, he mostly preened...and preened some more.

At one point, I was quite hopeful that I would *finally* get the picture I was after, since he was stretching both his wings (one at a time of course) sideways and downwards, which he generally then follows with stretching them upwards...but he didn't do it! He did that twice! Eventually, this meant that both the Boy and myself tried to coax him to stretch his wings that way by stretching our arms; which I'm sure meant we looked ridiculous.

I guess it somewhat worked, since I eventually got this picture; the very last one I took in the session too. And while it's not entirely what I was after (I wanted to see both wings clearly up), he has such a goof look on him, I'm quite happy with the picture!

I quite like this picture, and it very nearly was chosen as "the" picture for today; however, I think the other title worked better to start the project.

But it is not said anywhere that I can't share this one too!

1:365 - Happy New Year!

Shade wishes everyone a Happy New year!

Yes, I'm going to try this 365 pictures of parrots business for a second year!

It was pretty much a last minute decision. I asked the Boy to give me a randomized list of the birds (to decide a picture taking order) before I entirely committed to the idea.

As I have discussed in a previous post, I'm "embarking" on the adventure with a little caveat: I won't have to take pictures daily, I'll probably take a number of them on the week-end (or on Statutory Holidays, just like today), since I'll have more time and might actually get decent light this way, being able to shoot in the middle of the day, and not have to rely heavily on using the flash. As well, this will provide me with flexibility to take pictures ahead of time, should we go anywhere on holidays, without having to go without a few days of pictures. Since the end result I'm going after is really to have a year's worth of pictures of my birds, I think this new "rule" is quite fine, as it will probably help me to not want to give up.

So, on that note, I hope everyone enjoys the pictures!

A toy order: Avian Stainless

I think it's been a while since I posted about toys for the birds, and mostly purchased toys. After this year's Sidewalk Sale, I thought I could take a little breather from purchasing toys, as my "reserve" bins were quite full. However, a little while ago Avian Stainless was having a sale, a specific toy was on sale and if you purchased for a certain amount ($60 I think?) shipping was free. This latter part was the most tempting aspect of the sale (as stainless steel toys can add up in weight) so I put in a small order, which showed up just before Christmas.

What I ordered:

The toy that was on sale - "Pandemonium" (in the "Feelin' Feisty" section).

I ordered the smaller version (4 cups instead of 5) and since this one has plastic pieces and isn't welded shut, it will go to one of the smaller birds who can't destroy hard plastics nor undo hoops that are shut pretty tightly.

The second toy is the "Major Mayhem" (in the Major 'Tude" section).

This one does have welded shut parts and is fairly large so will go to Léa.

Finally, the last toy - "Mini Mayhem" (in the "Bit' o Sass" section).

I believe this one will be Piper's and if he doesn't really show any interest in it, it'll go to one of the smaller Pois.

All in all, very happy with the order, of very lovely and shiny (and likely noisy) toys!

Tongue action!

She wasn't yawning, I think she was grinding her beak and it just looked like her tongue kept getting in the way. It also looks like she tasted something quite disgusting and is showing her displeasure at it, "blergh!"

An overhead Pixel made him a little nervous, he would much rather be on the Boy's shoulder. So I took one picture and that was it.
