221:365 - Joey

Yesterday's picture. Ironically, this is one of the first pictures from this photoshoot - took many more wanting something specific, but it just didn't happen.

220:365 - Is that the Boy I hear??

He was getting quite excited, hearing the Boy on the other side of the birdroom door!

219:365 - Wings up!

Getting a pictures of Pixel with her wings up doesn't happen very often (unlike getting a picture of her yawning), so when it does happen, it will go up.

Truly, the picture, in it's full resolution, is far from being the sharpest one I ever took. But of all the pictures I took of Piper yesterday (and this is actually for yesterday's 365 entry), it was my favourite. Can't resist that he was mid-chirp and on the go.

216:365 - Hi!

Happy "Gotcha day" Petey!

Six years ago (yesterday), Petey joined the flock.

Although most of his history is unknown to me, I know the few months prior to us getting him were filled with change; he ended up in a rescue, was adopted out and came back within a few weeks. Out of all of my birds, he's the one who has had the most homes.

He also is the oldest, and given we don't know exactly when his hatchdate is, we will celebrate him turning 19 today (his band does say he was hatched in 1995).

Although being the oldest is really no excuse for him having had so many "homes". I truly hope that none of my other birds will have to go through what he did, and they won't so long as I am able to properly care for them.

In any case, today is Petey's day. While he and I are still on a "no touch" basis, the Boy, who has always been "his person", has made even more progress as far as Petey trusting him. While Petey was always enamored with him, there are certain things even the Boy couldn't do. But this year, the Boy has been able to pick him up with his hands (as opposed to asking him to step up) and has even managed to have Petey lay on his back in his hand for a few minutes at a time - things that he could never do before.

Hopefully this continues!

*boom* *boom* *boom* *boom*

There was noise coming from the birdroom a few minutes ago - the distinct sound of Petey repetitively raising the tray on top of his cage and it falling back down. As I commented on it, the Boy got up and said 'oh, I should check that out, that's the Petey alarm'.

And as it turns out, Petey was reporting something. The Boy hadn't closed Pixel's cage properly and she had gotten out. I much prefer Petey "tattling" on her than there being an accident.

215:365 - Wings up!

Can never resist a picture of a parrot with their wings up!

What I really like about this one, though, is that it really shows the gradient on Shade, from the orange on her belly to the yellow under her wings. It's hard to capture with the camera, and often her belly shows up to be more yellow than it is.
