I believe I said last week that Zuri was to return to the vet this week and that he might have his bandage removed.
Well his appointment was today. He still has a bandage on but things still seem to be healing properly. To be honest, part of me is relieved about having him in his collar for a few extra days as we will be moving next Monday and I was concerned that the stress of the day would trigger him to chew on his toe - this won't be a problem.
The vet wants us to start hydrotherapy with Zuri once we have moved. It involves taking the bandage off and having lukewarm water run over his foot for 2 to 3 minutes a day for 7 to 10 days. This apparently would help the cells to migrate towards the tip of the toe and help finalize the healing. Given we were planning on taking two weeks off to coincide with the move, it seems timing will work on that front as well.
Today he seemed to want to eat a lot - which made me happy. His appetite has been up over the last week, although his weight seemed rather stable. Being in the bigger cage did increase his mobility; he's quite active and alert.
All in all, he seems to be in good spirits even with the collar and bandage. And hopefully all this hands on time will help with handling him minus the collar in the future. He really has no choice but to trust us to get around so I hope the trust will remain even once he's back to being free to move on his own.
