It is what happens when you insist on taking pictures with a certain lens with only so much distance between you and your subject and that said distance is limited by where you placed the bird and how far back you can go and being borderline what the lens can handle to properly focus. Add to the mix a bird that doesn't want to stay still and moves closer to you, making that distance shorter and confusing the lens/camera...well you just take pictures and hope one turns out, even if a little sideways.
