Joey is a male Red-bellied parrot; same family as Senegals (Poicephalus), but not a Senegal. He doesn't really talk (other than saying his name from time to time) and generally mumbles incomprehensibly, which I find much more amusing.
In your experience with both a male and female red belly, which would you recommend? I went to an aviary in Colorado who has females and males available. One of the males took to me yesterday. I constantly read how adult males can be more nippy than females. What do you think? Thanks!
To be honest, I wouldn't necessarily recommend one gender over the other, both are pretty good. I think it is much more important to go by an individual bird's personality. If one took to you and "chose" you, then I think that may be the best match you can do.
