New skewers

The last of my delayed-by-the-mail-lock-out packages arrived yesterday.

My new Expandable Habitat skewers, which I got during their by three of a kind, get one free sale last month. I got 16 total in two different sizes - eight 6 1/2" skewers as well as eight 11" skewers. That way , the Pois (including Léa) will get one of the smaller ones, the leftover two will be Piper's and then every Poi (including Léa) will get one of the longer skewers, meaning I'll have two extra to rotate.

I made a batch of "greens" this past Sunday, so I'll want to finish that first, but I can't wait to try skewering some larger chunks of food for the birds and seeing if they'll enjoy food that way. The skewers are also to act as a toy base.

Canada Post back to work!

Which means I'll finally be able to receive a few parcels I've been waiting for!

Canada Post and the worker's Union had been unable to come to an agreement for the new collective agreement and while things were still running while the Union had put in place rotating strikes, earlier this month Canada Post decided to lock out all employees, forcing the Federal Government to intervene.

Long story short - we were without mail for a little while.

Timing for me was bad - just as the Sidewalk Sale crept along on Avian Avenue. Not that I ordered much, but I have five parcels which either got held "hostage" or weren't shipped, waiting for the whole situation to be over.

I should be getting a Things for Wings package in the next few days, as it was close to getting here before the lock-out happened - combination of some items from a sale that happened a while ago as well as some items purchased during the Sidewalk Sale.

As well, I'm looking forward to a package from Oliver's Garden; I should be getting two new swings, one for Zuri and one for Petey as well as getting some toys for Piper, Pixel and Shade and finally getting a platform perch for Léa as well as a U Crabby toy, which I have loved the moment I saw it. It's adorable - as far as toys can be adorable.

But not only bird stuff had been purchased during the Sidewalk Sale - Quaking Canopy, which is a small business based in the United States, participated and was having an incredible deal on homemade goat milk soap. I got a few things to try out and am quite looking forward to receiving the package as I've heard good thing after good thing about the products.

That is only three packages..

A little while ago Coco, from Coco's Flock, posted about how to get a great discount from Wingdow for a Wingdow unit. It kept bugging me and I spoke about it to the Boy so he could tell me that it wasn't worth it for whatever reason and he decided to get a medium sized unit as a gift for me! So that should be on it's way too.

Finally, I felt the need to get skewers but failed to take advantage of the Mother Pluckin' Sidewalk Sale discount. But, everything happens for a reason, as I found out a few days later that Expandable Habitat was having a sale (which I believe is still on until the end of June) on their skewers and toy hangers - buy three get one free. So I got a few of those, in the 6 1/2" and 11" models.

I'm looking forward to receiving everything!

What happened to the EH skewers?

Back in February I bought two used stainless steel Expandable Habitat skewers and, back then, was't too sure about what to do with them.

Then I went through my stash of wood pieces and found some Mother Pluckin' blocks and slats I had purchased the first time I put an order through MPBT and which, in time, I realized where slightly large for my guys and didn't really spark their interest.

So I took them out and started stringing them on the skewers and here is the end result.

What am I doing with them now? Well...they have been put in my larger empty cage for the moment and they seem quite at home there! After all, in the eventuality that I do one day get a Cape parrot, I don't think these would be too large for it's beak...

Expandable Habitat skewers

Earlier this week I was looking at the want ads, an activity which I very occasionally do, and instead of stopping on every "bird for sale" ad, one with bird related items caught my eye.

Actually, had there been no picture I would have probably glanced right over it.

But there was. And I thought I had spotted two Expandable Habitat skewers amongst the different things for sale. Turns out I was right.

Why get all excited? A few people I know through parrot forums have been talking highly about Expandable Habitat cages and other items. They apparently use a high quality stainless steel in everything them make.

So I figured why not see if the skewers were still available?

They were. And while the ad did refer to their size, I didn't imagine they would be this big (did I mention I really stink at visualizing lengths of things without having it in front of me?)

I bought them anyways, even if they are obviously too big to give to the birds I currently have - they were too good a deal to pass on.

Here's a picture - the lens cape is 62mm wide (which I was told is 2.44") to give you an idea of the size. For anyone who have seen the medium Mother Plucking atoms, I could hang one there (with an extra quick link) and it would still stick out.

I'm not sure what I'll do with them yet.
Could keep them on hand until I get a Cape parrot, might hang them with some wood pieces from the atoms, could try to make a swing...I'll surely think of something!
