A recent Things for Wings order

Things for Wings has branched out it seems! Danita is now offering more than her fun toys and toy parts, she now included food and I believe more is to come!

Thanks to a friend, I was made aware of this change just when I needed some more TOPs. And since Danita had the 10 lbs bag in stock at a very nice price, I made my first "non-Things-For-Wings-original" purchase there.

That might appear like a large bag but with my large flock, it actually lasts not that long (a month or two?). We keep the bag in the freezer to keep it fresh (I LOVE my chest freezer!)

I also figured that while I made an order for a food item, I might as well purchase some toys from her new adorable daffodil collection. I actually only got two of the same for my two biggest small Poi chewers at the moment (Joey and Shade) and I really think this toy is going to be a favourite with both of them!

Finally, because I do have another big chewer here who's appetite can really only be satisfied with harder pieces of wood, I got her another copy of "her" toy - the Léa toy!

Let's go outside!

It was finally warm enough today for me to feel comfortable bringing the birds outside.

So we set up the tables in our backyard and out the birds came in their travel cages.

We were out there between an hour, an hour and a half. In the beginning, they seemed, for the most part, a little unsettled. Of course, it's been months since they have last been out, and the noises and surrounding were probably like new for them. However, towards the end of our time out, they seemed quite content, even the frequent plane (more frequent then I remember) gearing for landing at the not-so-distant airport didn't phase them out.

Hopefully, we'll have more of these lovely days before it gets incredibly hot so that birds can also enjoy some nice sunshine.

Trying out new things - Almond butter

This morning I decided to "spice" things up a little and spread a thin layer of organic almond butter on the birds' piece of toast. Generally, they get a small piece of plain multigrain toast.

It turns out the first try for the almond wasn't a great success in the sense that most birds didn't take to it.

However, those who did try it out seemed to love it - I don't think I've ever seen Pixel eat her toast so quickly and have such a messy beak.

As well, it seems that the Boy couldn't find any trace of Petey's piece of toast, and I don't think he's generally a fan. By all likeliness, the almond butter made him change his opinion on toast!

Léa "art"

Léa was apparently a handful this morning.
She kept flying to places she shouldn't go, which meant the Boy had to keep running after her.

I think he was particularly annoyed because he was trying to process some pictures at the same time.

Eventually, Léa remained close to him, but she also decided to walk all over his laptop and created some funky art (using one of the pictures the Boy was processing as the base).

He didn't know exactly what she did, but it did take a few clicks of the "undo" button to get back to what he had originally.

Intrigued by the new camera

At the risk of overcrowding this current page with pictures of Léa, I will  be sharing a few more.

The reason I have so many? I'm not exactly sure, but I think Léa was captivated by the new camera. Lately, when using my older one, she would quickly try to move onto other things. Yesterday, she was glued in front of it. It might be the slightly quieter shutter, I don't know...but she was being a great model!

New camera = pictures!

I got a new camera today and of course, I had to take pictures of the birds!

Here are some shot of everyone, minus Petey who was rather antsy today.

Wet Léa

It seems that Léa was also in the mood to take a bath but, unlike Piper, she didn't get very wet and made a HUGE mess of her cage - seriously, I think the whole bottom was wet. Even the opposite corner from where her bowl is located. The floor of the birdroom closest to her cage also got touched by storm Léa...

Piper should teach her how to be neat when bathing.

Wet Piper

He decided to take a bath in his water bowl in his cage (how he did manage that, I have no idea) and, surprisingly, he made very little mess. The bottom of his cage, safe for a very small spot, was all dry!

He did manage to get nicely wet on his underside, on his head and on his tail.

I took him out for pictures, but he spent most of his time "drying" off...which meant I got some pretty freaky pictures, showcasing how flexible he is!

April Parrot Club Pictures

Last night I attended the local Parrot Club meeting and took a few pictures.

Here is a few select pictures - trying to not post any on the blog with people on them (in focus at least).

This little Barraband parakeet was quite chatty! Lots of "what are you doing?" and "I love you" coming out of him!

"Darn harness!"

A few Instagram pictures from April

These were taken a little earlier this month. Everyone but Petey and Léa (who weren't in a picture-taking mood).

Even labels are fun!

Joey makes no distinction!
Crystal of Crystal's Bird Toys is hosting a contest on her Facebook page, involving pictures of parrots with one of her tags / business cards. Since Joey is particularly enthusiastic about these things, he was the obvious pick here!

Silly Léa

It was time for the small guys to come out and while this was underway, Léa decided to use the swing in her cage for a little before getting off on the U shape perch on her door. Now, by being on that perch, she was still within reach of the bit of rope that dangles from the bottom of her swing. And, because it had the swing's momentum, the piece of string would repetitively touch her head, to which she said "Hey!", more and more angrily as it continued.

Silly (but smart I guess) Léa!

Hi!

As always, such expressive eyes!
