160:365 - I'm a big boy!

The title?

Well what you don't see on the picture is that the perch on which Petey is standing on is actually on a scale. See, since the move I've been less than diligent about weighing the birds; for one, we didn't really have a dedicated spot for the scale for a while and the birds were not really willing to cooperate with the whole set-up in a new environment. So since the move and prior to tonight, I've weighed everyone 2-3 times max and didn't always manage to get everyone's weight..

I thought it was time to get back into the habit of doing it daily. So I set up the scale and perch somewhere I thought it would be out of the way and not around anything "new and scary" and proceeded to weigh them. Other than Piper who really didn't want to go on the perch and Léa who was very keen to go somewhere else and play, everyone did fairly well.

Petey did exceptionally well - so much that I decided to whip out my camera and take a few pictures since today was "his day". And trust me, I will be putting more from that photo shoot on the blog shortly; choosing one for the picture of the day was hard! I don't think he ever cooperated quite that well during a photo shoot!

But let's get back to the title.

Generally, Petey weighs 130g on average.

Tonight?

137g.

Yeah.

159:365 - Still has his collar..

The healing is still progressing - the scab is shrinking (probably due to some of it falling off every other day).

If I'm perfectly honest, I'm ready to be done with this. I am very ready for him to go back on the "regular" cycle, coming out with the other smaller guys. Having to take him out on his own is starting to take it's toll, as there are just so many hours in a day, and we'll be pushing him being in this state for two months now in less than 10 days...

However, this doesn't mean I'll rush him out of his collar once the scab is totally off. He'll be at least a week in his collar after the last piece falls off. I say at least as I will not take the collar off unless it's a week-end - I want to be there to see what he does, if he tries to get to his toe or if he leaves it alone.

And while I'm sure he's liking all the individual attention, I'm sure he'll be happy about being able to hang out with Shade again and I'm sure she'll be happy once he's out of that weird looking contraption..

158:365 - Wide-eyed Pixel

I'll be honest, blogging this week, even just the tiny picture-a-day posts, has been difficult. Too much to do and then too tired to post.

I might have to play catch up this week-end.

157:365 - Shade & Stripes

I shot this yesterday at sunset - the flood of light coming in through the blinds had a neat effect on the walls and I'm happy it kinds shows here, even though I did use my flash.

156:365 - Well...

..scratch me??

A recent CBT order and gift

I recently put in an order for a few things from Crystal Bird Toys. It wasn't a big order by any means, but I just felt like getting a toy for the birds and haven't done so in quite some time.

One of her new toys is named "Mario Blocks" and it's the toy I wanted so I got 6 of them. I like to be pretty even when I give toys out, giving identical toys as long as I know it's something they all like and I think this will do - it's thinly cut pine and even Petey has started to like chewing pine!

I'll even give one to Piper - he sometimes tries to chew up pine so we'll see if this will get his interest. Worst case, if he leave the wood alone, I know he'll go for the wicker and palm parts and once he's done with that, I can give the toy to another bird.

6 toys, 7 birds, I must have forgotten one, right?

Well no.

Sometime ago I had received a Lullaby swing as a gift for Léa from a member of the Avian Avenue forum. For a while, Léa had used it as a swing only and left the toy parts alone until the day she realized they were there for her entertainment and basically destroyed most of them off (leaving bigger pieces of branches and leather). I had asked Crystal if she could fill up the stainless steel base and she included it with this order as a Housewarming gift. Thanks Crystal!

I do love the colours she's chosen for the swing!

155:365 - Leaning Joey

Not sure why he adopted that position..

Léa's coral eyebrow

She's definitively starting to get a coral eyebrow on one side (it's in the works on the other), which is funny since the coral band on her forehead is no where close to her eyes yet!

Proud little guy

He looks quite regal on this picture I find!

Preening Poi Girlies

Ms. Contortionist

She was bending over a little weird while preening on the atom.

And just because I like this one as well..

*Munch*

The small guys like this type of stuff to chew on.

154:365 - Piper in the orange room

Piper closes out the orange room week.
It'll definitively be featured in future pictures again, but it will be nice to be able to switch the background colour once more.

153:365 - Joey in the orange room

Doesn't it just look like it's *his* room?
