I haven't written in a while; the Boy has been sick and then I have been sick which meant blogging was the last thing on my mind.
There is a funny story though that the Boy shared some days ago that I figured is cute enough to share with a broader audience.
He was in the birdroom and Petey was doing his usual string of "Hi Petey!" greetings (he does use variations of it, it's quite adorable). The Boy was answering back but it seems at one point Léa thought it was her turn to get some attention so she made the "AH!" noise I make when we play peek-a-boo and followed it with an enthusiastic "Hi Léa!" of her own!

Wet Cape parrot
She was preparing to shake off the excess water off of herself as I took these shots.
And that will be it for wet bird pictures this week-end; the ones I took of Zuri didn't come out nice and I didn't bother with giving a shower to Petey as I can spray him with an entire bottle of water and he won't get wet. He hates showers and will take baths when he wants to get wet.

Wet Red-bellied parrots
This morning, I gave the birds some showers.
Amongst them, Joey and Pixel are definitively two of the ones that get wet the easiest!

Intrigued
Anyone thinks the Boy was taking unnecessary risks leaving his laptop open under no supervision with birds out?
Who would have known...
Piper could spend his day glued to my shoulder or in my hand getting his head scratched if I let him.
He likes getting ALL the attention and isn't too much of a happy camper if I spread the love to others while they are out.
So you would have thought that being let out a few minutes earlier than the others for some exclusive one on one time with me would have made him happy.
It seems not.
Instead of spending the time with me, he flew all over the place, screaming (yes screaming as loud as his little lungs could take) for the others.
The moment the others starting showing up, he was screaming less, but as they were all in a "chatty" (to put things nicely...) mood this morning, he continued to make noise with them. But at that point he was sitting nicely on my shoulder.
Weird birds.

Impatient Léa
As I was greeting the birds this afternoon when I got home from work, I started with the ones who's cages were along the side of the room where the door is located, which is Pixel, Joey and Petey. As I made my way down to Petey (who's the furthest from the door out of the three), and gave him plenty of greetings (lots of "Hi Petey!") Léa got impatient and let out a very affirmative "Hi Lé!" of her own, as if to say enough of this nonesense of greeting other birds before I greet her. I did give her a quick response from a distance, before moving onto Piper's cage (which is located opposite of Petey's).
It did make me laugh though!

The peaceful look
The last few evenings she's been very well behaved, even cooperating for a photoshoot (which means I have quite a few pictures of her to share still).
She's back to either wanting to cuddle or to play nicely on her own with wooden toys. She's also making more of her little random noises, which always makes me smile!

Defying the purpose
The Wingdow comes with a nice perch.
And for most birds here, that perch is where they hang out while they look outside or play with some foot toys.
But Léa sees it otherwise. She likes to defy the whole purpose of the Wingdow by perching where she shouldn't perch.
When I first glanced at the picture above as I was about to process it (mostly crop and resize), I had to keep reminding myself that the alignment was right and that it was how I took the picture, given how, if you flipped it from landscape to portrait, it would look like Léa was standing upright.
After playing peacefully on the Wingdow perch for quite some time last night, she found, as she usually does, that it was time to explore.
Let's move sideways!
But, as is often the case, she didn't want to stay in one spot so she proceeded to move to the other side - the hardest way possible. Instead of going back down and then walking accross and going back up, she just tried to slide sideways. This was actually quite entertaining, as she kept accidentally sliding downwards.
Perfectly perched
She finally did make it to the other corner. But since the blinds are right within reach and that I don't want her to play with them, we took her down, and did the same with the Wingdow as it had gotten dark outside and there wasn't much to see anymore.

A bit of everyone!
I was in the process of going through the older pictures on my phone to make space for newer ones and I realized I had a few unposted pictures..and as I was moving them, I realized I had done so for one of each of the flock members, without thinking about it!
I quite like this one of Shade - in fact, I am quite surprised I didn't post it before! (The fact that I hadn't resized it before today is what makes me think I haven't - I haven't actually gone back in former posts to confirm!)
Preening Joey - very common when cameras are involved.
Love Zuri's yellow cap!
Surprised Pixel.
Surprising well behaved Petey.
That piece of wood kept her busy for a long time on the evening I took the picture.
Piper loves the get-a-grip net - one of the few pictures of him not rubbing his head on it or chewing the fray pieces at the end of the net.

Coral explosion on her wings!
It seemed lately that there has been an explosion of coral on Léa's "shoulders", so much so that I think there will finally be a solid strand of coral that goes from that area all the way down her wings soon!
She already has a nice solid and large band of coral going on the lower part of the bottom of her wings, the "shoulder" area was always the one place that needed to play catch up.
Léa's right wing
The fact is she has a lot of coral feathers on both "shoulders", but they are spread all over the place, fighting to get through all the green feathers, instead of being localized in one central area.
Léa's left wing
I guess this means that it's likely that she might have a wide spread of coral in those areas but I guess time will tell just how much she'll have.
Given that the coral has also exploded on her head recently, and feathers are popping up further and further back on her head, I'm curious how much she'll have there as well by the time she turns two in May.

I want your camera!
Zuri's determined look at getting to my camera.
I was trying to take pictures of all birds this morning with natural lighting and I didn't get a chance to do so, since Zuri kept interfering. I did end up putting him in his cage at one point but, by then, most birds seemed like they wanted to avoid having their picture taken.
Puffy Piper
I have mentioned in previous post how Piper's beak, following an injury he sustained a few years ago, had started to overgrow on one side. Well, over the last few weeks, his beak has been much better, really rarely requiring that I file it down at all. This makes me quite happy, it probably means that the kink on the other side of his beak which was causing this imbalance is on it's last leg before growing all out.
